Sorry for the silence but the music moves me so much
So lately things have been kinda hectic (what else is new in Bradfieldland?) but altogether pretty ok. I got a job at Borders and have been working there this week. Lots of interesting people / coworkers / customers, etc and it is an all right gig, although it doesn't pay me all that much. There's another Erin who works there...another Erin B. as a matter of fact, which is unfortunate in that I think I may have to get a new nickname. Now, you might be saying, "But you have SO MANY nicknames! Why not just pick one?" true and more true, but at the same time, there are very few nicknames that I like, enjoy, and oh yes, would be comfortable responding to over the intercom. I might go by Rin, probalby not rin rin (that is sorta reserved for jo jo and Jeanne), not Red (Larry's the only one who can get away with that one), not EB (very Stromish, plus...well, the other girl is also EB), not Erdog (as much as this was an ok name for high school...it kinda sucks, I am not a dog, nor an AIR dog, nor...), not Cinnamon, not Skittlebutt (yes, someone did call me this once), not Westlawn Diva... And so on. My top runners are Rin and Celia, believe it or not. I might go by a shortened version of my middle name, just because. This probably won't happen, but I was thinking about having an alter ego who works at the bookstore...her name would be Celia, and she would be pretty much like me in every other way...but I have no idea if I would be able to respond to Celia or not. Huh.
One guy at Borders, Rick, apparently is in a band of some sort and I might jam with him sometime, which would rock. But speaking of music and rock and all that....
Libby Kirkpatrick
So I went to a concert thingy CJ had going on, and he had this friend of his playing, that being Libby. I'd heard some of her stuff, and thought it was good, and since it was a CJ shindig, I figured I'd go out and support. Either way...he played, and he's always good...and then she played...Libby is one of the most amazing people I have ever met. She is a great singer / songwriter, etc. The tones of her voice could plain make you cry, and she's just oozing with soul and personality and amazingness. I haven't met someone like this in an extremely long time, and it was great. She's coming back to town on Thursday, so I will definitely get to see her play at Coco. : ) She's got a website, that might be libbykirkpatrick.com or something like this...but I dunno.
Also, i might be going to see Johnny Marr and the Healers on Sunday (he's the guitarist from the Smiths!!!)
Also, well I'll fill this in more later, but I am on an upswing with Nashville, and it's a good thing...I'll explain. Part of it has to do with Libby, part of it has to do with videogames and skee ball...

I too have been thinking of 'how my light [was] spent" since graduation. It'll be one year on the 19th, and I have to say that so much has changed since then. I live in Nashville, Tennessee, I go to graduate school at Vanderbilt, I work a bunch of jobs but still have time for the little things that make me happy. My two roommates (Kristin and Evan) have moved out...they left Thursday actually. So strange...it was a nice set up. I've a new roommate, but she hasn't really moved in yet. It looks like the relationship will be purely business, which is sort of unfortunate. The WEST LAWN DIVAS are a thing of the past, at least partially. Ev and Kristin will be in Cincinnati next year, which is all of 4 hrs away, so I'll definitely make a trek or two to visit. They'll be my closest friends in the region...right now 7-8hrs are the closest people I know (Chicago - Kyle +co, plus my friend Matt from home). Things are really different in so many ways right now, and when I think of Colgate, me at the beginning of Vanderbilt, and then all the shit that has gone down last semester and this one, it's pretty strange. I was trying to talk to CJ about that...the whole 1yr post college thought, but he seemed none too impressed. He's 24, but still, it wasn't that long ago for him...but he's a rock and roller on the road, so what can you do?
On another note, check out Accuradio.com -- brit rock. It's like someone stole my cd collection and did a show. Blur, Belle and Sebastian, Gorillaz, Stone Roses, English Beat, etc and so on. I just heard "Sonnet" -- bringing me back to freshman year!
hope all is well ----------------------------------------------

Sleep Deprivation Experiments Commence After a Long Hiatus
Yep, back on my old Colgate schedule of sorts. Who would have ever thought that as a grad student working 20+ hrs a week outside of class that I would get MORE sleep than I did in college. But, don't worry, as of late I am back back back onto my non-existent / how do you exist on this amount of sleep schedule. I was up until 6am at Cafe Coco editing shit out of my Godard paper. I think it is coming together, but I have to type in my edits and retear it apart. This is my method...
In other news...The Feminism paper that I was buggin out about but turned in anyway because it was "due" got a grade posted yesterday. Mind you, I didn't even want to open the paper up after I turned it in because I was afraid that it was a royal piece of shizah! But the grade got posted / I picked up the paper in my mailbox with a nice shiny happy "A" on it! This is virtually unheard of from Diane Perpich, so imagine my surprise / shock / giddyness...it motivated me to bust out some more powah on this film paper. It got me to stay up till 6am and get up at 10, I'll tell you that much.
PhiLL --
I don't know if I will be in NY this summer or not. My mom is coming down to see me in June...so if I was to make the trek up there it would be in August maybe. We'll see how the summer looks and feels before I do any real planning. I agree, it has been WAY too long. It has almost been a year since I have seen you, Marty, Larry, and some other cats. I saw Flynn in January, but that even seems like it was ages ago. In a couple of days, it will be an entire YEAR since we graduated college. I was getting all strange one night thinking about this (of course while I was supposed to be writing a paper) -- I went down senior week / graduation memory lane and even had the musical memory and journal to prove it. Strange stuff. I am in a very different place now than I was when I graduated. I will write more on this at a later time.
Well, back to the paper, as I beg my eyes to stay open. WORD.
