It's kinda like dancin'
it's kinda like losin' your mind

-- Jolie Holland

Psychedelic Presence

So during the middle of my prelim madness, and cat traumas (I had to put Jackson to sleep, the best damn cat-dog I ever had -- this was on Wednesday, but I wasn't ready to post it, didn't know how to put it), I had a nice surprise, a musical surprise. I didn't know anything about the show before hand, and we were only going to stay for an hour...but it was amazing. Have you ever heard Jolie Holland?! She's got a voice like country laced silk that can break your heart in a sort of soft alt-country sorta way. It's like Chan Marshall mated with Billie Holiday and met up with Lucinda Williams along the way. Amazing. I'll attach some lyrics. The woman broke my heart a coupla times last night.

"Alley Flowers"

--some people say you got a psychadelic presense, shinin in the park with a bioluminescense, down these city streets I see you comin from afar and I know in this world ain't nobody's got the shine like you got to shine in this world ain't nobody's got the shine like you got to shine in this world--nobody sings like Mary Sue Bell, nobody prays like Willie MacTell, nobody walks a mile in my stolen shoes like I do--in this world...I still miss my lonesome lover and I cain't find no single other to take his empty place in my heart of hearts--I told him, in this world....the ghost of Shakespeare's on the street, corderoy hat layin at his feet, howlin in the harp these dirty city blues fallin hard-in this world...Zora Neale Hurston told her story and they kicked her out of new york city just like jesus christ in gallilee, like I said, in this world...some people say I got a psychadelic presense shinin in the park with a bioluminescense, down these city streets I see you comin from afar, and I know, ain't nobody's got the shine like you got to shine in this world ain't nobody's got the shine like you got to shine in this world.*******

If you get a minute to check her out, do it do it do it. If you get to see her, I can only say more loudly the same.

Swooples of Love

This is a post to let y'all know about how much I love PhiLL...who instead of sending me one cd by mail (which would have still rocked by the way) saw fit to send me a whole package of goodies - cds, stickers, fun stuff - in the mail. This made my entire day, as I've been sorta traumatized as of late with this prelim and a sick kitty cat. So, much love to PhiLL - I feel the love from the Seattle area, to be sure. Flynn, on the other hand, is still MIA, and has not posted, nor emailed or called me back (it's been over a week on both counts). I hope he's enjoying NYC, and that things are ok.

We'll, that's it for now. Back to the studying process.

The Papering Vortex?

That's what I used to call it, and still do to an extent, but this prelim madness (that I sort of equate with SPACE >>>>MADNESS) is a different beast altogether.

Everyday is Like Sunday

No, this isn't a Colgate lazy day Sunday. This isn't a post-partying Sunday. This is a Sunday in the middle of prelims...and everyday from now on will be like it. I'm preparing a question on a philosopher I know very little about (er, well I knew nothing about him, and then did some homework on it today and yesterday and now have a bit of a grasp on the material), and that was a bit stressful. But I'm just keepin on keepin on, as I will.
