This Is No Joke
I was listening to the radio a week or so ago, and there was a radio phone in contest, as radiostations are wont to have from time to time. Nothing too unusual there...until, of course, you get to the prize. I was shocked! There was awe! I almost fell over laughing! The prize that could be obtained by being the 9th caller was a drum roll please...12 pack of Miller Light!
No, this really happened. I couldn't make up something that ludicrous. But what the fuck? And of course, someone called in and won it. Who wouldn't want that reach-for-the-stars-or-your-phone prize? All the same, it made me seriously reconsider where I live nowadays.
Teletubbie Bye Bye?
Ok, so not exactly. But this needs to be brief, as I'm at a cafe. I had a crazy good bad different week and weekend. The week roller coastered me in much the same way as last did, and ended well. There was roommate drama, but in a way it turned out well (he boyfriend broke up with her, but it wasn't a good relationship, and she was to break up with him imminently) - then she and I hung out on Friday night, which was great. We got some sushi with people in my dept and then had a drink at a local bar with outdoor seating. I ran into some people that I used to know once upon a whenever, and it was an interesting gathering. It was good. Sorry this is vague. Just this one guy who I used to hang out with EVERY SINGLE day who dropped off the face of the earth because he's an ass...anyway, I'm in touch with my karmic self, so I made a call earlier in the week to him, and so this meeting wasn't awkward. Nashville is a town city. You run into everybody - even if you don't want to. So we all just joined table to table and had some crazy conversations...one which made me want to remember the names of the Teletubbies...which at that point, I could only remember Po and Tinky Winky. I wished Flynn was there. So later that night I gave him a call (2:15 am NY time, 1:15 TN time) and I actually got him on the phone. Amazing. For some reason I knew I'd reach him and that he wouldn't be sleeping, but would be out in the City. We caught up on some things - he's doing well, hopefully getting himself connected to all these crazy heirs to fortunes (not kidding) and has a meeting coming up through such connections about a possible job at the
Paris Review. Wish Flynn luck. And yes, he filled in the blanks about the other Teletubbies. It all brought me back to sophomore year and madness in CAH with PhiLL, Flynn, and jo jo. Ahhhh. The memories. Hope all weekends were rockin.
