No Time for Creativity:
Papers and Quite Possibly the Worst Date EVER

Ok, so I'm supposed to be working on a paper right now, but this is too tempting to just let pass by. I bet you thought at some point that you'd been on the worst quasi-date ever. But let me just pause to let you know that you're wrong. I was on it last night:

So D. calls me about an hour for our scheduled meeting -- we were to go see Godard's Masculine / Feminine at the indie theater in town. As I'm a huge Godard fan and actually hadn't seen this 1965 classic, I was beyond excited. D. is into film, so all systems seemed go. So he calls and asks me if I'd be terribly disappointed if we didn't go...if I was really set on it. I told him that I was going to go either way. He then replied that he'd hate to disappoint me (at which point I should have said, yea, well you already are), so that he was 99% sure he'd meet me. He was leaving the next day for a 2 week vacation to LA among other places. I told him that if he showed up, cool, if not, I GET IT. I could have said I'd understand or something else of the sort, but that wasn't what I meant. I figured if he didn't show, he wasn't interested, etc., so that's how I phrased it. I GET IT. So I show up...and my friend James is working the door. We'd originally met and started talking because I'd gone to see Godard's In Praise of Love 2 days in a row, and he declared me to be his hero on the spot. So when I showed up to see this Godard film, he asked me if I was there for Masculine / Feminine, and I said, "hey, this is me we're talking about...of course I'm here for the Godard!" and he told me I could be his guest for the day. So I walked in. I waited in the lobby for D. I waited and waited and it was 5 of 7 and I didn't see him lingering outside, and I was feeling like the girl who has been stood up. What's worse than being the girl who has been stood up, I looked like the girl who has been stood up (and in front of someone I know). So I went into the theater, got a seat, watched some previews. Then ran out to the%
